Delights of the Mediaeval Kitchen
29th May 2007. |

At Cressing Temple we are offering you a unique opportunity to look back through time, in association with living history group, The Household.
On Sunday 3rd June this beautiful site near Braintree will host a group of
specialist interpreters of medieval domestic life as they present a fascinating
insight into the workings of a fifteenth century merchant household.

Visitors will be able to watch a medieval household celebrating a family anniversary
and can talk to the cooks, the steward, apothecary and the mistress of the
house. Plus luxurious delicacies from a sophisticated medieval cuisine will
also be on offer along with a guided tour of the Walled Garden to highlight
the plants used in the display.
A falconry demonstration at 2pm (weather permitting) will reveal another aspect
of the Middle Ages - how the wealthy used birds of prey to add variety to
their diet.
County Councillor Jeremy Lucas, Cabinet Member for Heritage, Culture and the
Arts, said: "Across the centuries people have always had a fascination
with food - it is more than mere sustenance. This is an excellent opportunity
to meet medieval re-enactors who will bring the history of food back to life
in a fun and relevant way."
Admission fees from the event will be donated to the National Garden Scheme
(£3.50 adults, £2.50 concessions).
