Tudor Garden Update - Spring 2008 |
| Early Summer 2007 Update | Mid Summer 2007 Update | Late Summer 2007 Update |
It's the
end of winter and signs of spring are clearly evident throughout the garden.
Cowslips are beginning to flower in the Nuttery and will soon delight with
a carpet of vivid colour. Later, snakes head fritillaries with their delicate
lantern shaped flowers will emerge between the cowslips.

New knots are being developed.
The newly planted box knot/maze situated next to the medlar and mulberry tree
will be completed shortly and once the pathway has been laid, will be open
to walk through. This simple geometric design is typical of a late Tudor or
early Stuart garden feature and will be clipped to maintain a low hedge.

The Barley Barn from the
Cullen Garden.
The Cullen Garden, next to the farmhouse has been modified recently and the
fencing and gates removed. This is to encourage visitors to use the garden
as another route to the Barley Barn and make it more of an accessible area
of the site. It is hoped that damage made by moles and rabbits will be reduced
if the garden is used more. Consequently, less vulnerable annual bedding will
be planted; instead, the emphasis will be on shrubs and perennials not attractive
to rabbits.
