Can I have exclusive hire of the site for my wedding?
You may have exclusive hire of the site on a Saturday. The site is open to
the public at all other times.
How much would it
cost to hire Cressing Temple for my wedding ceremony and reception?
To hire Cressing Temple on a Friday or a Saturday would cost £3,000
for the day. You may come in the day before (by arrangement) after 4.30pm
to set up.
There is a 10% discount to hold your wedding at Cressing Temple Monday-Thursday
bringing the cost down to £2,700.
What does the full
wedding package include?
Wheat Barn for the ceremony: set up with red carpet,100 velvet padded seats
and oak ceremony table.
Barley Barn for reception: includes use of fifty 6 ft trestle tables and 400
metal chairs. (You are very welcome to hire in your own round tables and decorative
chairs).
Oak Room for the bride to prepare for the ceremony and to store any gifts.
Tudor Walled Garden and grounds for photographs.
An office for the Registrar.
Luxury portable toilet block adjacent to the Barley Barn.
Free car parking facilties by the visitor centre. Guests are welcome to leave
their cars on site overnight and collect them in the morning.
Can I just have my
ceremony at Cressing Temple?
You can have a wedding ceremony Monday-Thursday. For £650 you have use
of the Wheat Barn for the ceremony and the Tudor Walled Garden for your photographs
for two hours. Please note that Cressing Temple is open to the public from
10am-5pm. The Barn would be closed to the public for the duration of the ceremony
only.
For an additional fee you can hire the Oak room in the 17th century farmhouse
to prepare for the ceremony.
How many people can
you accommodate for the civil ceremony?
We can accommodate over 120 people seated in the Wheat Barn. There is also
room for people to stand at the back.
If you are hiring the site on a Monday to Thursday just for a ceremony , it
is possible to accommodate up to 400 people in the Barley Barn, as both barns
are licensed for ceremonies.
Can you recommend
any caterers or bar providers?
A comprehensive list of companies who have catered for weddings at Cressing
Temple in the recent past is available on request. The Catering Manager at
Cressing Temple would also be pleased to discuss cold buffet options with
you.
Do we have to use
your preferred caterer?
You are free to use any caterers that you choose. A comprehensive list of
companies who have catered for weddings at Cressing Temple in the recent past
is available on request. The Catering Manager at Cressing Temple would also
be pleased to discuss cold buffet options with you.
How many people can
you acccommodate for a sit-down meal?
To seat guests in comfort, and leave space for a dance floor, the space would
suit up to 250 seated.
How many people can
you accommodate for an evening reception?
The Barley Barn is capable of accommodating up to 350 guests.
When is the site available
for hire?
The 800 year old barns are available for hire during the summer months: May
-September. It is not possible to heat the barns successfully and therefore
they are not used outside of the summer months.
Can we decorate the
Barns for our ceremony and reception?
Yes. We can make ladders available free of charge if you wish to tie bows,
flowers, etc. to the beams. You must not use tacks or nails, but can use ropes,
wire, cable ties, selltape, blu-tack to attach things to the beams.
Can I have fireworks
at my wedding?
No. It is a condition of our premises licence that no functions can have fireworks
at any time. Laser shows are also not permitted.
What sort of music
do people have for their weddings at Cressing Temple?
During the ceremony and before the wedding breakfast, acoustic music, such
as a string quartet, is permitted in the grounds.
For the evening reception, couples normally choose either a disco or a live
band such as a ceilidh band. The music must finish at 11pm.
When do I have to
pay for my function?
To confirm your booking we ask for a deposit of £1800. Three months
before the wedding we ask for the second instalment of the hire fee £1200.
What happens if it's
raining on our wedding day?
There is plenty of space in the two barns to provide cover for your guests.
Do
you allow confetti to be thrown at the venue?
We allow bio-degradable confetti (such as rose petals) to be thrown inside
the barns. You must not throw confetti in the grounds.
How many car parking
spaces are available?
There are 100 spaces on the hard standing car park by the Visitor centre,
and there are plenty more spaces on the overflow car parking field. Guests
are welcome to leave their cars overnight and collect them in the morning.
Will ours be the only
wedding at your venue on our wedding day?
Yes. There is only ever one wedding at the venue. You would have exclusive
hire of the site on a Saturday. The site is open to the public at all other
times.
Do you allow candles
at Cressing Temple?
No. Naked flame of any sort is an unacceptable fire risk in these ancient
buildings.
Do you offer the option
of a marquee?
There is plenty of space in the two barns to provide cover for your guests,
so it would not be necessary to erect a large marquee.
Is there any overnight
accommodation?
Not at Cressing Temple, but we can provide you with details of the many local

Barn
Cressing Temple is located on the B1018 between Braintree and Witham and is easily accessed by car from London via the A12 or Stansted Airport and the M11 Motorway via the A120.
By train there is a service from London, Liverpool Street. Change at Witham on to the Braintree line and alight at White Notley Station. Cressing Temple is just over a mile from here by road.
Or alight at Witham Station and catch a taxi from the taxi rank just outside the station.
